Reckless Mod
v0.21Six modulation effects on one panel: chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo and vibrato on one LFO, and Multi Chorus, eleven chorus voices spread across the stereo field.
From the user guide
The modes
- Chorus — a delayed copy wobbled by the LFO, mixed with the dry. Color is the delay.
- Multi Chorus — eleven chorus voices at different delays and wobbles, placed across the field: an ensemble. Color sets their delay, Rate the slowest voice (the rest run faster), Spread fans them out, and Mix takes Feedback's place. Wave is dimmed; it has no feedback.
- Phaser — three moving notches. Color is the middle notch's frequency.
- Flanger — the chorus's delay made short and swept wide: the jet. Feedback makes it metallic.
- Tremolo — the level moves. Feedback and Color are dimmed.
- Vibrato — pitch wobble with the level left alone. Feedback makes the sweep resonant.
Picking a mode by hand sets Rate and Depth (and in Multi Chorus, Color) to that mode's starting point; automation, a session or a preset moves nothing. Double-click Rate or Depth to return to it. A mode change fades over 20 ms, so Mode is safe to automate.
Controls
| Close-up | Control | Range | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | Mode | Chorus / Multi Chorus / Phaser / Flanger / Tremolo / Vibrato | Chorus | Which effect. |
![]() | Wave | Sine / Triangle / Square / Exponential | Sine | The LFO's shape. Square is two positions with a quick glide. |
![]() | Rate | 0.02 to 10 Hz | 1 Hz | How fast the effect moves. Multi Chorus stops at 2 Hz. |
![]() | Sync | Free, 2/1 to 1/16 (with dotted and triplet values) | Free | Locks the LFO to the host's tempo, and to the timeline while playing. |
![]() | Depth | 0 to 100 % | 50 % | How far the LFO moves the effect. At 0 nothing moves. |
![]() | Feedback | 0 to 100 % | 0 % | Wet signal fed back: resonance on a flanger, bite on a phaser. |
![]() | Color | 0 to 100 %, shown in the mode's units | 50 % | Where the effect rests: a delay or a frequency. Type a value, e.g. 12 ms. |
![]() | Spread | 0 to 100 % | 100 % | Stereo width from the LFO. At 0 both sides move together. |
![]() | Mix | 0 to 100 % | 70 % | Multi Chorus only: dry against the eleven voices, level unchanged. |
Tips
- A classic chorus: Sine, Rate around 0.8 Hz, Depth 40 to 60 %, Color 10 to 15 ms, no Feedback.
- The jet flange: Flanger, Triangle or Sine at 0.2 to 0.5 Hz, Depth full, Color around 1 ms, Feedback 60 to 85 %.
- Hard tremolo: Tremolo, Square wave, synced to eighths or sixteenths for a rhythmic chop.
- The lush ensemble is Multi Chorus as picking it leaves it. For an eighties rack chorus, Color 12 to 15 ms, Rate around 0.15 Hz, Depth 70 %.
